Music Therapy Internship

Stepping into your music therapy internship is a transformative milestone, and at Empower You Therapy Services, we are dedicated to holding space for your growth as both a musician and a clinician. Here, you’ll join a passionate, collaborative team committed to neuro-affirming, client-led care across all ages. We believe that true therapeutic impact happens when clients—and interns—are empowered to show up as their authentic selves. Throughout your six months with us, you’ll build clinical confidence, deepen your musicality, and discover your unique voice as an advocate in the field.
About the Internship
Empower You Therapy Services is proud to offer a University-Affiliated Music Therapy Internship for students who have completed their coursework at an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved university program.
We provide a rich, neuro-affirming internship experience serving individuals of all ages within the disability and neurodivergent community. Interns gain hands-on clinical experience across diverse settings—including in-home, clinic-based, and telehealth sessions—focused on strengths-based care and client-led goals.

Demonstrate Musical Skill Competency through:
*Voice: You will be evaluated primarily on pitch accuracy and appropriate volume
*Guitar: Prepare a song to be played and transposed on the guitar. You will be evaluated on the accuracy of chords, strum patterns, and transposition skills.
*Piano: Prepare a song from a different decade and genre to be played and transposed on the piano. You will be evaluated on the accuracy of accompaniment pattern and transposition skills.You will be asked to sing and transpose a well known song of the internship supervisor's choice
Demonstrate Clinical Skill Competency Through:
*Documentation sample: Provide an example of your documentation from a clinical placement.
*Live intervention sample: Prepare to play and discuss how the musical elements of a third, self-selected song or intervention could be used and/or altered to address a specific adult client's goal. Think of this as a small case study where you provide a sample client and goal, along with a well-thought-out and rationalized intervention. -
Reliable Transportation
CPR/First-aid training (needed before the start date) We recommend HeartSaver CPR + First-Aid
Background check (acquired through EYTS prior to start date)
Copy of driver's license
Copy of social security card
University affiliate agreement/liability insurance with the university. ( Current affiliations with Colorado State University)
